Custodial Connected Deaths 2024

The Office of Independent Review (OIR) is currently in the process of gathering information on the custodial connected deaths for the year 2024. Once all information is gathered, the OIR will proceed to conduct an independent review of each individual custodial connected death, these reports will be published here once the independent review is complete.

We are currently in 2024 with 8 custodial connected deaths. There are 2 custodial connected death that are pending investigation. The manner of death are classified as Accident, Natural, Suicide, or Undetermined. Each cause of death is detailed within the respective bar in the visualization. Specifically, for overdose cases, the type of drug involved—such as Fentanyl (FEN)—is indicated. On the x-axis, you can see the number of days the individual was in custody prior to their death. Below you will find more data on each individual custodial connected death.
